9 Tips for Choosing the Perfect Wedding Venue...

By Niagara Wedding Helper

Niagara Wedding Helper Blog - Choosing a Wedding Venue

Once you have decided on your budget and have a rough idea of the number of guests you are hoping to invite, the next step is to find your wedding venue. Finding that perfect wedding venue, however, is a big decision and can quickly become a stressful task. Not only will the venue take up a large portion of your budget, but it also sets the overall look and mood of your wedding day.

Below are 9 helpful tips to consider when choosing the location for your special day:

1) Know Your Budget: Before you even begin to look for a wedding venue, you need to set your overall budget and decide just how much you can spend on a venue. Once you set your budget you need to decide if you are you planning on having the ceremony and reception at the same location or two different locations as this can have a big impact on your venue costs. Determining whether you want your wedding during prime wedding season or during the winter, as well as on a weekend as opposed to a week day will also have an impact on the cost of your wedding venue. As well, when setting your venue budget and choosing a wedding venue, you must determine what additional items and costs that venue includes. Does the venue provide all the food (appetizers, meal, dessert, late night buffet), drinks, tables, chairs, linens, other décor items, onsite coordinator, etc.

2) Know Your Guest List: Knowing the amount of guest you are hoping on inviting, or at least having a rough idea of the number of people that will be attending your wedding will have a big impact on your venue choice. Make sure you are looking at venues that are appropriate for this number as you don’t want to find that perfect location and then find out its maximum capacity is below what you require.

3) Talk to a Wedding Planner: If you have decided to hire a Wedding Planner, it may be a good idea to talk to them about your venue choice. Wedding Planners are familiar with the venues in the area and their capabilities, and will be able to help recommend venues that will fit you budget, vision and other wedding needs

4) Stay True to Yourself: Wedding photos found in magazines and Pinterest are stunning and tend to portray that perfect fairy tale wedding, making it easy to get swept up in that vision. The reality, however, is that these weddings are usually expensive and might not reflect who you and your partner are. It is important when choosing your venue that you stay true to you and your partners taste and choose a wedding location that reflects that. Do you love the outdoors or going to wineries? Is your taste more rustic or modern? This day is about the two of you so make sure you pick a venue that reflects that.

5) Wedding Date and Availability: Venues can book up fast, so once you have determined a possible venue choice, before you do anything else, make sure that the venue is available on your wedding date or month.

6) Overall Venue Layout: Do the venues that you are considering have space for everything you need? For example, wedding ceremony, cocktails, dinner reception, dance floor etc.

7) Venue Restrictions: Find out if the venue has any type of restrictions that you should be aware of. Do they have a designated start and end time? Noise restrictions (i.e. music level or end time)? Décor restrictions (i.e. candles or hanging of linen draping)? Do they allow any wedding vendors that you choose, or do they have a preferred vendor list that you must choose from?

8) Consider Your Guests Experience: You want your wedding guests to enjoy your wedding, so it is always a good idea to consider your guests needs when choosing a wedding venue. If you are having your ceremony and reception in two different locations, are these locations close to each other or are your guests going to have to travel all over the place. If there is a time gap between your ceremony and reception is there stuff that your guests can do or places they can go during that time frame? Are there accommodations nearby for out of town guests? Is parking available and close to your venue and if not, is there a shuttle or some sort of transportation to get your guests to your wedding location. Finally, do any of your guests have special requirements (i.e. accessibility or allergies), and can the venue accommodate these requirements?

9) Privacy: Do you have the venue to yourself on your wedding day or will there be other weddings/events occurring on the same date? If other events will be occurring at the same time, how does the venue accommodate for this?

Choosing that perfect wedding venue is a very important task that can take a large portion of your budget and will set the overall atmosphere for your wedding day. Considering the tips above and knowing what types of questions to ask can help with this process and make the overall experience positive and fun.
