Helpful Tips for Choosing Your Wedding Party By Niagara Wedding Helper Your wedding party is your support group. They are the ones you can turn to, helping you plan for one of the most important days of your life. They can help come up with ideas and suggestions for your wedding, help to carry out wedding planning tasks, or simple just be by your side as you plan for your special day. Your wedding party also helps to make sure that you wedding day goes smoothly and are there to take care of any issues that may arise, leaving you and your partner worry free. The question is, how exactly do you choose who is going to be in your wedding party? Below are some helpful tips to consider when choosing your wedding party: Think twice before you ask: Don’t just pick the first people that come to mind and ask them. Take your time and really think it through. How reliable are the people you want to ask? Are they going to be there when you need them, and carry out the tasks they are assigned? Can you trust them to be responsible on your wedding day? What are their personalities like? Will everyone in the wedding party be able to get along with each other? And finally, who is going to be your maid of honour (or man of honour) and best man (or best women)? Choose these two roles carefully as these are the two people in your wedding party that you will have to rely on the most. Include your siblings: Even if you’re not super close to your siblings you should try to include them in your wedding party. Friends may come and go but family will always be family. Plus, your siblings will most likely feel important being included in your big day. Set honest expectations: When choosing your wedding party, you need to set honest expectations. As much as your wedding party members want to be there for you and your partner, they also have their own lives to deal with. Make sure the budget you set for your wedding party is reasonable and that they will be able to afford it. It may be good to have individual discussions to find out how much they are able to spend. Also, you should consider just how much time you expect your wedding party to dedicate to helping with your wedding planning. If you expect your wedding party to be involved in every aspect of your planning, you need to make sure that their personal schedule will allow them to do so. Size of your wedding party: Although it is normal for larger weddings to have larger wedding parties and smaller weddings to have smaller wedding parties, the size of your wedding party is up to you and your partner. You also do not have to have an even number of people on the bride and groom’s sides if you don’t want to. Just keep in mind that the more people you include, them more people you need to deal with when it comes to things like scheduling arrangements and other people’s opinions. Don’t ask someone just because they asked you: Just because someone asked you to be party of their wedding party doesn’t mean that you must ask them to be part of yours. This is your day…choose the people that YOU want to be a part of your wedding party. Create other roles: Do you have people that you would love to include in your wedding, but not necessarily as part of the wedding party? One way to solve this is to create other roles. There is so much that goes into planning a wedding, and so many roles that can be included. Maybe you have a friend that is great at playing an instrument, singing or being an MC. Or maybe you know someone who can make wedding decorations, flower bouquets, etc. Most people would be honoured that you included them, even if they are not part of your wedding party. Do you need to involve kids: The answer to this is simple. Do you want to include kids? If you don’t want to, then don’t. It is your wedding. If you are having an adult only wedding, then this gives you even more reason not have to include kids in the wedding party. On the other hand, if you have young children in the family, or have close friends with young children, and want to add the cuteness to your wedding party that a flower girl or ringbearer can bring, then include children. Just keep in mind that children tend to live by their own set of rules so don’t be disappointed if they make their way down the aisle differently then what you envisioned…if they make it down the aisle at all! Choosing your wedding party does not need to be stressful. Keep these tips in mind when making your decision, discuss your choices with your partner before asking anyone, and remember…this is YOUR wedding. Want more help when it comes to your wedding party?
