Important Tips When It Comes To Sending Save The Dates... By Niagara Wedding Helper Save the Date cards are becoming more and more popular, but what are they exactly? Should you send them? What do you put on them and who do you send them too??? Save the Dates are considered the “pre-invitation”. It announces your official wedding date and allows guest to know that they are going to be invited to your wedding. Below are a few important tips to keep in mind when sending out your save the date cards: Should you send save the dates: If you are having a very short engagement period, it might not make sense to send them as you may not have enough time. If you are having a long engagement, however, it is typically a good idea to send save the dates. These helpful cards give wedding guests advanced notice about your wedding date and location, giving them time to make any necessary arrangements needed for them to be able to attend your wedding. For Example, booking time off work, travel and accommodation arrangements, saving money, finding someone to look after any children if they are not attending the wedding, etc. When to send save the dates: It is a good idea to start letting your guest know about your wedding date around 6-8 months prior to your wedding. You don’t really want to send them out much earlier then that (unless you are having a destination wedding or a large amount of out of town guests that need to make travel arrangements) as you do not want your wedding date to be over looked and forgotten. Who to send save the dates to: Once you send someone a save the date, it is hard to turn back and uninvite them. This means ONLY send save the dates to people you know your FOR SURE want at your wedding. When addressing the save the dates to your wedding guests, make sure you are clear about who it is you are inviting…write out each guests’ full name and make sure to mention if they are allowed a plus one or if children are also invited. What to put on save the dates: Save the dates should be simple and to the point. The couples name, wedding date, and wedding location/venue are a must. If you have created a wedding website, it is a good idea to add that to your cards as well. You can write “invitation to follow” or “formal invitation to follow” at the bottom of the card to make guest aware that an actual invitation will be sent out closer to the wedding date, however, this is not necessary. Extra Tip: always make sure your date and venue are set in stone before you send out your save the dates. Do save the dates need to match your wedding: Save the dates do not need to match your wedding colours or your wedding invitations. Since this is an informal invitation sent out 6-8 months prior to your wedding, this is the time to have some fun and show off your personality. A great idea is to add a fun photo of you and your partner doing something you love or from your engagement photo session. Looking for someone to create your Save the Date cards?
