Recently Engaged? Planning your wedding? Not sure where to begin your wedding planning process or what style of wedding you are even interested in? A great place to start is to visit a local wedding show. Many of these shows occur during the spring and fall and are a great way to speak to a variety of vendors for many different areas of a wedding, all in one location. If you are a bride/groom that is not sure what kind of wedding you want, wedding shows can help give you an idea of what types of options exist within the many different areas of a wedding, and help you get an idea of what styles you really like. If you are a bride/groom that knows what style of wedding you want, wedding shows can help you gather information, compare prices and services, and speak directly to the types of wedding vendors that you are interested in, all in one day.

With so many different types of vendors all in one place, and so many people attending, wedding shows can become very overwhelming.  Below is a list of suggestion that can help you prepare for attending wedding show(s), allowing you to have the best experience possible and to gather all the information you really need to plan your perfect wedding.

Before Attending the Wedding Show:

Create a Wedding Email Address: Create an email account specifically for your wedding so that you do not have to give out your personal email address. This also helps to keep all emails wedding related organized in one location.

Make a List of Wedding Vendors You Need: Making a list of wedding vendors you still need for your wedding can allow you to spend your time wisely, giving you more time to talk to vendors you are really interested in. It is also a good idea to check the exhibitor list prior to attending a wedding show, writing down specific vendor names that you would like to speak with.

Know Your Budgets: Know what your budgets are for each area of your wedding so that you spend your time talking to vendors within your price range.

Make Pre-Printed Labels: Prior to going to a wedding show, print out labels with both the bride/groom names, your address, phone number, email address and wedding date. This will allow you to spend less time filling out your information for the many vender give-aways and promo-contests, and more time gathering information to help you plan your wedding.

Have a Pre-Made List of Questions: Create a list of questions that you want to ask each wedding vendor, that way you don’t forget to ask important questions once you are at the wedding show. It is also a good idea to bring a pen and notebook, writing down the answers for each vendor on a separate page (that you don’t have to worry about remembering what everyone said while you are at the show). You can also staple the vendors business card right onto the notebook page with their answers to help better remember them once you are back home

Pre-register for the Bridal Show: Pre-registering or buying your ticket online can help to reduce the wait time to get into the wedding show.

During the Wedding Show:

Bring Someone with You: It is always nice to bring someone with you to help provide second opinions.

Vendor Availability: Find out if vendors you are really interested are even available on your wedding date. There is no point in spending time talking to a vendor that is not going to be available on the date you need.

Bring an Extra Bag: Bring an extra bag with you to carry all the business cards and items that you will collect throughout the wedding show. Mark with pen, the business cards/items of vendors that you are really interested in prior to placing them into your bag. This way when you get home with a bag full of stuff, you can easily remember which vendors you liked and want to follow up on.

Ask Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is one of the main purposes of a wedding show…for vendors and potential clients to meet, and for clients to gather information needed to help plan their wedding. Vendors want to book as many clients as they can so they will usually be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Take Pictures: Take pictures to help you remember things that you seen at the show that caught your eye (i.e. displays featuring wedding décor, floral arrangements, wedding cakes and dresses). Just make sure to ask the vendors permission to take the picture first.

After the Wedding Show:

Follow Up with Vendors: Make sure that you follow up with the vendors you are interested in as soon as you can. Vendors schedules and availability can fill up very fast. Have a second or third option in case you first option is no longer available

As mentioned above, wedding shows are a great way to speak to a variety of vendors for many different areas of a wedding, all in one location. They also, however, can become very overwhelming if you are not prepared. Being organized and knowing what vendors you need will help you manage you time wisely and gather all the information you need to plan your perfect wedding. Finally, when attending a wedding show, be open to a variety of ideas – you never know what might end up inspiring you – and most importantly, have fun!
